Swearwords {Melbourne}

Awesome agencies / LWC

They have a blog dedicated to bikes, they brand their own pencils, they review tasty restaurants and new beers, they blog about typography and create their own software AND they design beautifully effective web, print and packaging… phew… take a breath will you. Swearwords are based over in Melbourne and recently did me the honour of filling my inbox with juicy new design work hot off their press. If the above isn’t enough to shower […]

Switch {Auckland}

Awesome agencies / LWC

When I asked Switch to sum themselves up for me they used the phrases ‘nimble’ and ‘we play well with others’, this made me like them. The following images made me a like them even more. My posts have been pretty pun free thus far so on this occasion I’m going to throw in that they are truly switched on bunch, up the minute and right ON the pulse of contemporary design culture (sorry)! On […]

Luke Woodhouse {UK-Sydney bound}

Outstanding individuals

You know someones portfolio is worth looking at when they cite applied branding to jumbo jets and spaceships as part of their skill set. Currently making his way out of the depths of the English Winter, Luke Woodhouse has (in his own words) ‘decided to try something new, in a new city, new country, and new Hemisphere.’ Something that I love to go on about is simplicity. Simplicity in an idea. Simplicity in execution. Luke […]

Beans 2.0 grown at The Allotment

News

The Allotment have teamed up with writer Scott Perry (Bard of Bray) and illustrator Geoffrey Appleton to produce a contemporary spin on the old favourite fable Jack and the Beanstalk entitled Jack and the Giant Recession. This beautiful self promotional piece is stunningly produced – smart and thoughtful; witilly ruminating on the economic outlook whilst peddling their own considered brand of wares. The story starts with Jack, now grown up but without the benefit of his […]

Handily, the calendar also folds into a more handleable five concertina fold (A1 length, shown below) mailer. Printed on GF Smith ColorPlan and available in a handful of colours, this is a really nice […]

No Sügar Stüdio {Swansea}

Outstanding individuals

I think it’s best to start any post with a bit of truth. If even if the truth is, well, somewhat awkward… Martin Lee Grügel is an Everton fan. There; I said it. Make your peace with that now. But, and despite the fact that my own allegiances lie on the rouge side of Stanley Park we couldn’t begrudge him his rightfully earned place on the Journal. I’ve long been a fan of Martin’s work […]
