Fluonoir {Paris}

Awesome agencies

I’d never been to Paris until earlier this year. It’s beautiful. A merry meander down the Champs-Élysées hand in hand with my betroved, what could be more pleasant? Snap-happy tourists filled Louis Vuitton whilst I eat my body weight in crepés and inadvertently skipped the mammouth queues by finding a side entrance to the Louvre, before later ogling the stunningly bizarre Centre Pompidou. Good trip. Ah Paris… but I digress.

However, speaking of Parisian allures, et voilà – Fluonoir. In their own words “rich, flawless, successful visual solutions… our mission is to compose, innovate, structure… create sense, excite, and give life to content.” Jump on over to their blog too.

Get Lucky in style

News

Regular viewers of the ol’ D to tha J will already be aware of South African graphic swashbuckler Luke Ritchie. You may then recall his enterprise with @simonalander, LuckyFella Clothing Co., which was in the pipeline. True to his word, hey presto – he’s only gone and launched it!

Says Ritchie; “LuckyFella Clothing Co was born out of a desire for clean and custom type-centric clothing. As a graphic designer and typographer, I wanted to design beautifully resolved pieces, but also wanted an outlet for the things I create, crafting superduper premium, limited edition T-Shirts (at least just for now).”

With focus on sharp, elegant typography mixed with sophisticated garments, the T’s are produced in limited runs of just 160 and will probably never be produced again. When asked to encapsulate LFCCo’s ethos, Ritchie responded vintage, 1950’s, classic plain white T with a twist – custom typography. Nicely put, nicely done. Check them out for yourselves here.

Mytton Williams {Bath}

Awesome agencies

D&AD, DBA Design Effectiveness, Graphis Design, Clio Awards, Roses… the list goes on. It’s an embarrassment of riches for Bath-based consultancy Mytton Williams. But don’t hate the player hate the game. It’s founders (with previous experience in Pentagram & Interbrand (née Newell & Sorrell)), have been trading in sumptuous creative solutions that simply fit the bill since 1996. Nice work. Nice ethos.

No Sügar Stüdio {Swansea}

Outstanding individuals

I think it’s best to start any post with a bit of truth. If even if the truth is, well, somewhat awkward… Martin Lee Grügel is an Everton fan. There; I said it. Make your peace with that now. But, and despite the fact that my own allegiances lie on the rouge side of Stanley Park we couldn’t begrudge him his rightfully earned place on the Journal.

I’ve long been a fan of Martin’s work – his fine attention to detail, his craft and execution – the launch this month of his new website under the guise of No Sügar Stüdio has only further cemented this fact. Check his fineries out for yourselves though and please, if you can, don’t judge too harshly for his football taste, we all have our vices…
