Kiosk {Sheffield}

Outstanding individuals

I’d doubt there’s a designer amongst us who wasn’t influenced the giants of design The Designers Republic. In 2005 they disbanded and in the closing of that epic chapter came the turning of a new page for former TDR Senior Designer David Bailey. His studio Kiosk picks up where he left off, forging his own manifesto and typical high impact visual utterance. Tw. @davidkiosk

Young Jerks {Brooklyn, NY}

Outstanding individuals

Sweet type from Brooklyn designer Dan Cassaro, known to some (but probably not his Mum) as Young Jerks. Nicely put; he puts words on paper so that they might be accountable for themselves. His handy work is available in poster, logo, book and even font form and his blog isn’t too shabby neither, and while you’re there, he’s involved in the rather eye catching 50and50 Project. Cassaro spoke at this year’s Weapons of Mass Creation […]

Because Studio {Preston}

Outstanding individuals

Of the reams of work and urls we search through to present only the very best work on Designers Journal, one studio in particular stands amongst crowd as being a front runner as our favourite. Now don’t get me wrong, we’ve got many favourites – from Anagrama to Andy Robert Davies – but none whose work makes us smile quite to the same degree as Because Studio. They work predominantly with clients from the creative […]

Andy Taray {Akron, Oh}

Outstanding individuals

Continuing our entirely incidental theme of inspiring creatives-that-were-inspired-by-eighties-cartoon-heroes {see Jimmy Turrell and his fondness of Thundercats}, He-Man lovin’ design chap Andy Taray, aka Ohio Boy, held his Apple mighty mouse aloft and declared “he had the power.” And by the power of greyskull he was right. He had the power to produce a body of work just sweet enough to make even Skeletor blush. Enough tenuous introductories, behold… Tw. @ohioboydesign

Luke Ritchie {Cape Town}

Outstanding individuals

The thing about Luke Ritchie, you see, is he was once almost attacked by a hippo. Now that may or may not sound significant to you, however Luke probably* had an epiphany (*I say probably – it’s speculation, I don’t actually know). Unlike most who might take this occurance as a message from Hare Krishna to venture to Goa and ‘find themselves’ in yoga before going on to invent a new brand of natural yoghurt […]

Jordan Metcalf {Cape Town}

Outstanding individuals

Illustrator, typographer, designer, scarlet pimpernel, call him what you will but South African Jordan Metcalf‘s work is emminently cool. Previously featured in Codex: the Journal of Typography, TypeToken and Computer Arts, his is the sort of cool that creates a thoroughly enjoyable folio; not only his insanely amazing illustrated typography but also his character styling through to use of colour. Tw. @jordanmetcalf Do you have a great portfolio to share? Get in touch and share […]

Colin Bennett {Glasgow}

Outstanding individuals

2005 graduate and Roses nominated / D&AD commended Glaswegian Colin Bennett, is a senior designer at Glasgow’s Stand. The work accumilated in his folio is accomplished beyond his years; clinical, clean and built on solid and thoroughly thought through conceptual foundations. Typifies some rather splendid stuff currently coming out of Scotland. Tw. @colinbennett
